Three people sustained injuries after a small plane crash-landed on a busy road in Arizona on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by authorities.
The pilot of a privately-owned Republic RC-3 aircraft executed an "emergency gear-up landing" near 7th Street and Missouri Avenue in Phoenix at approximately 3:25 p.m. local time, according to reports from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Phoenix Police Department.
Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, the three individuals on board the single-engine plane reportedly suffered only minor injuries, as per Arizona Family.
Witnesses shared images on social media showing at least one person emerging from the damaged white-and-blue plane as it came to rest on the roadside.
The experienced pilot, boasting over 40 years of flying experience, maneuvered the landing to avoid power lines and identify a safe landing spot, stated Phoenix Fire Captain DJ Lee.
Although the plane struck a water main during the landing, there were no reported collisions with vehicles or structures at the busy intersection.
Describing the outcome as a "miracle," Lee emphasized the fortunate circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the crash, the surrounding roads were closed for the remainder of the day to facilitate the removal of the plane and address water main issues, as per authorities.
The cause of the emergency landing remains under investigation by the FAA.
This incident occurred shortly after a tragic event where a couple, Chris and Jacque Sheafe, lost their lives in a plane crash at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona, reported by KOLD.
Similarly, on the same day, another incident took place at Sun Valley-Bison-Fort Mohave Airport in Arizona, where a Cessna T-41B aircraft veered off the runway, crashing into a home's garage. The two occupants of the aircraft were hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the accident.
