Florida gubernatorial candidate accused of assaulting elderly individuals with cane and cellphone

A Democratic candidate running for governor in Florida is facing allegations of assaulting two elderly individuals, believed to be his parents, during a domestic altercation on Friday. Kevin Cichowski, 46, reportedly attacked one victim with a cane and threw a cellphone at the other inside a residence in Palm County, Florida, as per the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

While the police did not officially confirm Cichowski's relationship to the victims, they characterized the incident as domestic in nature. Body camera footage obtained by The Post captured Cichowski making nonsensical accusations against his parents during his arrest.

Following a 911 call from one of the victims reporting threats from Cichowski, law enforcement arrived at the scene, where Cichowski was seen being led away from the residence by an officer amid a significant presence of emergency vehicles. During this encounter, Cichowski expressed confusion and distress, mentioning his parents and making erratic statements.

Cichowski was arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a person over 65, tampering with a witness, and robbery by sudden snatching. He was subsequently placed under protective custody as per the Florida Baker Act, which allows for the detention of individuals deemed to be in a mental health crisis and posing a risk to themselves or others.

Notably, Cichowski had a previous arrest in 2024 for domestic battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment, though he was later cleared of these charges. He entered the gubernatorial race in Florida on March 24, just months before the primary election, having previously run an unsuccessful campaign for Palm Coast mayor in 2021.

On his campaign website, Cichowski claims to have changed political affiliations from Republican to Democrat after his 2024 arrest, stating he is seeking "revenge." The website is noted for its numerous spelling errors and punctuation mistakes.
