Citi Bike van collision leaves elderly woman critical after hitting pedestrians in NYC

An elderly woman is in critical condition after a Citi Bike van struck her and another man as they crossed a street in the Bronx on Sunday morning, according to police.

The incident occurred between Broadway and 225th Street in Marble Hill just before 10:40 a.m. The 71-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man were hit by a 41-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van who was attempting a left turn, the NYPD reported.

Both victims were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital. The man, aged 64, is in stable condition, while the woman, aged 71, remains in critical condition as of Sunday night, authorities confirmed.

The Mercedes van had a "Citi Bike" decal on its side, as per the New York Daily News.

Lyft, the company that operates Citi Bike, expressed concern over the incident, stating, "This incident is unacceptable. Our thoughts are with the affected parties. We're investigating this report and stand ready to assist law enforcement."

The 41-year-old driver remained at the scene, and no arrests have been made as the investigation is ongoing, according to the police.
