President Trump has expressed his opinion on Iran’s participation in the upcoming World Cup, hosted by the United States, in response to comments made by Iran’s sports minister.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated, “The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to The World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety.” President Trump, known for his close ties with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, made this statement following remarks by Ahmad Donyamali, the Iranian sports minister, who mentioned on state television that Iran would not be able to compete in the World Cup due to what he referred to as “wicked acts” by the US against Iran.
Iran had qualified for the World Cup scheduled for the summer of 2025, with plans to play group-stage matches in Los Angeles and Seattle on June 15, 21, and 26.
