A Honduran migrant was apprehended on Tuesday for pushing two strangers, including an 83-year-old man, onto subway tracks in the Upper East Side over the weekend, as per authorities.
Bairon Hernandez, 34, was arrested at a homeless shelter in Brooklyn by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the NYPD, according to law enforcement officials and sources.
The incident occurred at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station around noon on Sunday when Hernandez allegedly pushed the elderly victim and a 31-year-old man.
Hernandez has been charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, assault, and reckless endangerment.
Reportedly, he approached the two men from behind and shoved them, leaving them stranded on the tracks as he fled the scene.
Fortunately, quick-acting Good Samaritans rescued the men before a train arrived at the station. Both victims, who were unknown to each other, were taken to Cornell Hospital and are in stable condition.
When taken from an Upper East Side precinct on Tuesday night, Hernandez denied the accusations, shaking his head and responding with a firm "no" when questioned by reporters.
