Thailand's 'Death Fest' Promotes Embracing Life and Death with Enthusiasm

Thailand's unique event, known as the "Death Fest," is challenging attendees to confront the reality of mortality. Held near Bangkok for the second consecutive year, this three-day expo aims to help people face their fears about death and prepare for it practically.

The event features experts in healthcare, financial planning, and funeral services who offer guidance and answer questions. One of the most intriguing attractions is the "Test Die" experience, where participants lie in coffins and see themselves reflected as they would in death.

Organizers stress that the purpose is not to frighten but to encourage open discussions about a topic often avoided within families. Zcongklod Bangyikhan, one of the event organizers, emphasizes the importance of preparing for the inevitable and making things easier for those left behind.

For attendees like Sangduan Ngamvinijaroon, who has cared for sick relatives and witnessed multiple deaths, the event provides valuable insights. Ngamvinijaroon highlights the significance of not only preparing for a dignified death but also cherishing the present and taking care of one's life.

The festival also showcases innovative coffin designs, such as a biodegradable casket made from mushrooms. This eco-friendly option utilizes mycelium, the root-like fibers of fungi, to create a casket that naturally decomposes after burial.
