Dallas SWAT team kills fugitive security guard of Rep. Jasmine Crockett, according to report

A security guard who was a fugitive in Texas and reportedly worked for Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) was killed in a standoff with a Dallas SWAT team on Wednesday night.

The suspect, known by aliases including Mike King, was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer. He had claimed to be one while recruiting for his business that assigns off-duty police officers to extra jobs, as per CBS News Texas.

The Dallas Police Department's fugitive unit was tracking King on Wednesday night when he barricaded himself inside a car in the parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas around 11:40 p.m., officials stated at a press conference on Thursday morning.

After being forced out of the car by tear gas, King aimed a gun at the heavily armed police, who then fired at him. He was hit by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed his real name.

King had worked as a security guard for Crockett both in Washington, DC, and Texas, including during her campaign events for the Democratic Senate nomination, which she eventually lost to James Talarico, CBS reported.

Video footage showed the 44-year-old Democrat walking alongside her security guard, who was living a double life as a crime boss posing as a cop.

King operated the online platform "Off Duty Police Services" while driving a replica undercover police car with stolen license plates from a military recruiting office.

Despite King's criminal background, Crockett had paid him for security services as recently as last year, according to CBS News Texas.

Crockett, a progressive figure, has been a vocal critic of President Trump and GOP members of Congress since assuming office in 2023.

In a recent election watch party, Crockett accused the Republican party of interfering in her primary election, claiming they targeted Democratic voters.

Following her defeat, Crockett endorsed Talarico but stated she had no immediate plans to campaign for him.

Last month, Crockett faced criticism after her armed security guards removed Atlantic reporter Elaine Godfrey from a rally in Lubbock, alleging the reporter was a "top-notch hater" who needed to leave.
