California traveler charged with assaulting TSA officers, causing serious injury to Dallas police officer at airport

A man from California has been charged at the federal level for allegedly attacking two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers and causing serious injuries to a Dallas police officer at Dallas Love Field Airport, as confirmed by officials.

Idress Vinay Solomon, aged 33 and hailing from Oakland, California, could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for charges of assaulting a federal officer and causing bodily harm.

As outlined in a federal complaint filed on Wednesday, Solomon was in possession of a ticket for a Southwest Airlines flight to Oakland International Airport on March 10.

Reports indicate that Solomon approached the airport security checkpoint without proper identification and was then directed by a TSA officer to a different lane for identification verification through the agency’s ConfirmID process.

Following the failure of the verification process to confirm his identity, Solomon allegedly became verbally disruptive and aggressive, according to the complaint.

In response to the incident, US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould emphasized, "Violent conduct perpetrated against TSA and law enforcement officers will never be tolerated in the Northern District of Texas."

Surveillance footage reportedly captured the moment when Solomon allegedly struck a TSA officer during the altercation.

The complaint further details that the Dallas Police Department intervened in the situation, during which Solomon allegedly assaulted one of the officers by repeatedly punching the officer in the face, resulting in a severe orbital blowout fracture to the officer’s left eye that necessitated hospital treatment.

Subsequent to his apprehension, Solomon purportedly intentionally spat saliva on a police officer's arm while being placed into a police vehicle by officers, as stated in the complaint.

Prosecutors claimed that Solomon resisted complying with lawful verbal orders, continued to shout, and attempted to pull away from the officers during the incident.
