Texas woman accused of driving through crime scene and running over deceased victim

A woman in Texas allegedly drove through a sectioned-off crime scene and ran over the body of a deceased victim with her car, as reported by authorities.

The incident occurred on February 27 near State Highway 211, where a 61-year-old man was initially struck by a car's side mirror and then hit by another vehicle while lying on the road. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stated during a press conference that the man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was covered with a sheet, prompting the closure of the street to traffic.

The woman, identified as 26-year-old Tionne Spears, reportedly breached the barricaded area shortly after and drove over the man's remains. Sheriff Salazar mentioned that Spears narrowly avoided hitting two deputies investigating the scene, and no one else was harmed during the incident.

Authorities suspect that Spears was under the influence of substances and discovered she had khat, a plant native to Africa known for its stimulant properties that can reduce pain tolerance. Sheriff Salazar informed the press that khat has noticeable effects on the human body.

Pending toxicology test results to confirm Spears' drug use or potential consumption of other substances at the time of the incident, investigators are exploring the case further. The drivers involved in the initial collisions with the victim remained at the scene, with no suspicion of criminal activity on their part, according to the sheriff.

Spears was taken into custody at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center and charged with driving while intoxicated, abuse of a corpse, and possession of a controlled substance. Sheriff Salazar expressed astonishment at the unprecedented nature of the event, highlighting his 33 years of experience in law enforcement and noting the rarity of such occurrences.

The circumstances leading to the victim being on the road when he was struck remain unclear. Police disclosed that a black Chrysler 300 registered to the man was discovered near the scene.
