A man from Queens suspected of scattering the dismembered remains of his much younger wife in various locations across New York City was apprehended after his phone's family tracking app led authorities to him, prosecutors disclosed on Thursday.
Rupchand Simboo, aged 74, was formally charged with murder and concealing a human corpse following his arraignment late on Wednesday, as police connected him to a series of gruesome discoveries in Queens.
In September, sanitation workers stumbled upon the decomposed torso of a woman wrapped in a blanket near a wooded area off 149th Avenue and Brookville Boulevard. Subsequently identified as Simboo's 33-year-old wife, Salisha Ali, the remains were part of a disturbing trail that led to further discoveries.
Last week, Ali's head, legs, and arm were located in the Jamaica Wildlife Refuge during a search prompted by an investigation into Simboo's phone activity. Prosecutors revealed that detectives had traced Simboo's movements using the Life360 app on his phone, determining that he had been at the reserve on July 14 — the day after his wife was last seen alive.
Additionally, Simboo had been in the vicinity of Brookville Boulevard and 149th Avenue, where Ali's torso was discovered, according to prosecutors.
