SL Green has further strengthened its longstanding partnership with renowned chef Daniel Boulud by acquiring the property of his flagship restaurant in New York City.
The city's largest commercial landlord, SL Green, led by CEO Marc Holliday, purchased the 16,000-square-foot space of Restaurant Daniel at 60 E. 65th St. for $18.5 million, as revealed by recent public records.
Despite the ownership change, there will be no alterations at the Michelin-starred establishment, as Boulud's Dinex Group promptly secured a 20-year lease with the new landlord.
This transaction provides Dinex with additional resources to support its global expansion efforts, including recent ventures in Hong Kong and an upcoming opening in London at the Waldorf Astoria – Admiralty Arch.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Boulud stated, “As Restaurant Daniel embarks on its fourth decade, maintaining its strength, relevance, and reinvestment in the future is paramount to me. This positive transaction, with our trusted partner SL Green, enables us to do just that.”
Dinex CEO Sebastien Silvestri noted that the sale allows the company to concentrate on its primary restaurant operations, which in New York also encompasses Café Boulud at Maison Barnes, Le Gratin, and a new brasserie near the Lincoln Center.
SL Green's Executive Vice President Brett Herschenfeld emphasized that the acquisition reinforces the company's commitment to the Upper East Side community and enhances its successful collaborations with Boulud.
The close relationship between SL Green and Daniel Boulud is evident in their existing partnerships, with SLG already serving as the landlord for Boulud's Le Pavillion and Joji at One Vanderbilt, as well as La Tête d’Or at One Madison.
