Seven hospitalized after hazmat incident at Disneyland, source of noxious odor identified

Seven Disneyland employees were hospitalized on Tuesday due to a chemical reaction that occurred during building renovations, emitting a noxious odor in a backstage area, causing dizziness and shortness of breath, according to park officials.

The incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday when staff members noticed the noxious smell near the backstage area of the Star Tours attraction in Tomorrowland, as reported by Sgt. Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department.

Several employees who were exposed to the hazardous fumes received on-site medical treatment and were subsequently discharged, while seven others were transported to a local hospital for further treatment, park authorities stated.

The source of the toxic gas was identified as materials used by the building contractor, confirmed Sgt. Sutter. Fortunately, no park visitors were affected by the incident.

Although there was no update provided on the condition of the hospitalized workers, the affected areas were evacuated, and normal park operations resumed by 3 p.m., with the cleared sections reopening for guests, as announced by Sgt. Sutter.
