Distressing video reveals pets abandoned in Dubai during US-Iran conflict

Heartbreaking scenes have emerged from Dubai, showing abandoned pets left behind by expats hastily departing the region amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East.

As the conflict between the US-Israel and Iran escalates, missile strikes have spread across Gulf countries, prompting some expatriates in Dubai to flee the city, leaving a distressing trail of abandoned animals in their wake.

K9 Friends, a shelter in Dubai dedicated to rescuing abandoned dogs, expressed concern over the situation in an Instagram post, stating, "Due to the current situation, some people are being forced to leave the UAE suddenly, and sadly many pets are being left behind."

Similarly, Six Hounds, another shelter, reported receiving daily pleas for help, highlighting the overwhelming challenges faced by animal welfare organizations in the midst of the crisis.

Disturbing images of deserted cats and dogs have surfaced, including a heartbreaking note left with a crate containing a mother cat and her kittens, explaining that the owner had to leave due to the ongoing situation.

While abandoning pets in Dubai is illegal under UAE law, with penalties ranging from fines of AED 10,000 to AED 200,000, veterinarians and shelters like K9 Friends have been inundated with requests for assistance and support from the community.

Despite the challenges, these organizations continue to provide care for the abandoned animals, urging pet owners to seek help from registered organizations and warning against relying on unverified sources for donations.

War Paws, a charity advocating for animals affected by armed conflict, criticized the abandonment of pets in Dubai, emphasizing the need for responsible pet ownership and compassion towards animals.

Reports have also surfaced of pets being left stranded in the desert as residents attempted to leave the region, with Dubai Municipality taking steps to address the issue through the introduction of 'Ehsan Stations,' AI-based systems designed to feed stray animals.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of promoting humane values and animal welfare through initiatives like 'Ehsan Stations,' which will be implemented across key locations in Dubai.
