Customer Complaints Lead to 'F' Grade for Popular Store Chain Buc-ee’s: Customers Describe Experience as 'Worst Ever'

Buc-ee’s, a well-known convenience store chain praised for its clean restrooms and popular brisket sandwich, recently received an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

The BBB issued the failing grade to the Texas-based brand due to its failure to address nearly 90 customer complaints. While customer reviews do not directly impact the rating, the company's responsiveness to complaints plays a significant role in the BBB's assessment process.

Recent complaints lodged against Buc-ee’s include concerns about overpriced items, product quality issues, unsatisfactory customer service, and difficulties in returning certain purchases. One complaint described a disappointing food experience, stating, “Bought the chicken, bacon, avocado ranch wrap, it was so disgusting that I had to throw it out the window… It tasted like the most flavorless mush, and on top of it, it was $9.49.”

Another complaint highlighted poor customer service, with a customer expressing frustration over a lost or stolen gift card and the lack of a direct phone line for assistance.

Despite the “F” rating from the BBB, Buc-ee’s remains focused on its expansion efforts. The chain currently operates 54 stores in 11 states and is planning further expansion into Ohio, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

Known for its expansive stores with numerous gas pumps and parking spaces, Buc-ee’s offers popular items like Beaver Nuggets and fresh brisket. The company has received accolades for customer satisfaction, ranking fifth in the 2025 American Customer Satisfaction Index for convenience stores and securing the top spot in the quick-service restaurant category in dunnhumby rankings.

Buc-ee’s has also garnered attention for its transparent approach to employee compensation, with starting wages ranging from $16 to $20 per hour and full-time managers potentially earning between $100,000 and $225,000. The chain offers attractive benefits such as 401(k) plans with full company matching and three weeks of paid time off for employees.
