President Trump disclosed on Wednesday that he has been briefed on the potential activation of Iranian terrorist sleeper cells for attacks on Americans.
He mentioned being informed about a concerning FBI memo sent to law enforcement in California, cautioning about the possibility of Iran using drones from a vessel off the California coast to strike the mainland.
"We are looking into it, but there are many things happening, and we are addressing them as they arise," Trump informed reporters upon returning to Washington from Kentucky.
"The war is being conducted as effectively as ever," the president added.
He attributed the potential presence of Iran-aligned terrorists in the US to former President Joe Biden's policies, stating, "I have been briefed on Iranian sleeper cells and many individuals entered through Biden's open border policy, but we have a good handle on their whereabouts."
The FBI had alerted state officials in February about the Iranian-originated threat, although California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Trump's military actions despite this warning.
The FBI alert stated, "We recently obtained information in early February 2026 that Iran was reportedly planning a surprise drone attack from an unidentified vessel off the US Homeland coast, specifically targeting unspecified locations in California if the US initiated strikes against Iran."
Newsom acknowledged the drone threat during a news conference, mentioning ongoing collaboration with the State Operations Center on the matter.
While considered a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028, Newsom confirmed he had not directly discussed the threat with the president.
The critical threat arises as Iran rebuilds following the elimination of much of its leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and 40 senior military officials, in a joint US-Israel operation.
Speculation surrounds the whereabouts of Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, who was reportedly slated to succeed his father but has not been seen publicly.
Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has called for the assassination of Mojtaba, suggesting that the world is better off with his father deceased.
